Beer of the Week 1/3: Shipping Out of Boston
Updated: Jan 11
Beer: Shipping Out of Boston
Type: Amber Lager
Brewer: Jack’s Abby
Location: Framingham, MA
If I’m being honest, the reason I bought this beer in the first place is because I was feeling nostalgic during this time of quarantine living. I saw the name on the can and images of Jonathan Papelbon, formerly of the '07 Red Sox, running out of the bullpen to close out the World Series floated in front of my eyes.
And more than anything, I could just feel being back at a local bar with friends enjoying a few drinks with Dropkick Murphy’s “Shipping Up to Boston” blaring from every corner. That’s precisely why I purchased this beer in the first place, but not why it is this week’s Beer of the Week.
In an era within the craft brew scene that has all sorts of great IPA’s being made, sometimes you just want a change of pace. This Amber Lager offers that hop lover just enough bite and hoppy bitterness to satisfy that craving out of an easy drinking beer.
Shipping Out of Boston is light enough to have a few as well, but dark enough to please those who prefer their beer to be a little heftier. While this beer is not seasonal, I will personally target this one for prime drinking after work during the winter months since it resembles that darker winter style.
So next time you stop by the store after work, make sure you get your hands on this beer. And hopefully one day soon we will all once again raise a glass and scream to Boston’s favorite rally cry.
