Beer of the Week 2/14: Nugget Nectar

Beer: Nugget Nectar

Type: Amber Ale

ABV: 7.5%

Brewer: Troegs Independent Brewing

Location: Hershey, PA

The Nugget Nectar Amber Ale from Troegs is an elusive brew, presenting itself just once per year! Given such exclusivity, seems like the right time to name it Beer of the Week.

Of course no beer wins BOTW on exclusivity alone. This is a delicious amber ale! It’s worth the wait and there’s a lot to unpack from start to finish with this one.

The combo of hops used here includes Nugget, Warrior, Tomahawk, Simcoe, and Palisade. I'd be lying if I said I could tell you that without reading it on their website, but it seemed like a good place to start. Troegs went out of their way to dry-hop this beer in excess, which I personally love. The aroma bursts right out of the can in the form of pine and mango.

As you can see it’s a beautiful, super clear amber with solid head retention. Pine was the most noticeable flavor to me, but it was balanced by fruity notes as well and weighed down just a tad by some maltiness. Otherwise light in body with a crisp, very bitter finish, flavors linger long after it’s down the hatch.
