Beer of the Week 7/5: Summer Ale

Updated: Oct 5, 2020

Beer: Summer Ale

Type: English Pale Ale

ABV: 5.0%

Brewer: Brooklyn Brewery

Location: Brooklyn, NY

To be named Beer of the Week on the week of July 4th is an honor one shouldn't take lightly. What a great day/beach/ marathon drinking holiday! This is our first time selecting a beer for the fourth of July week and this Brooklyn Summer Ale simply it the spot.

Everything about this beer says summer. For a pale ale it goes down exceptionally smooth and has some fruitiness to it; a hint of lemon I'd say. Little hoppiness on the back end, but I definitely wouldn't say a lover of hops would gravitate to this.

Pours a nice, clear golden and you can feel that throughout. It's a thin sip with some carbonation, but nothing too crazy. For me this beer was perfect for the long weekend because long summer weekends mean longer days of drinking. It's not so light that you want to drink them too fast, but it definitely isn't going to fill you up either.

We're all about the "situational pairings" with beer (credit to Bog Iron for that terminology!) and this one felt right and refreshing for a hot summers day.
