Beer of the Week 11/1: Green Fountains
Beer: Green Fountains
Type: New England IPA
Brewer: Ten Bends Beer
Location: Hyde Park, VT
If you’re familiar with Ten Bends Beer at all, then I’m sure you get it. They make outstanding stuff, and Green Fountains - a play on Vermont’s state nickname and beautiful mountain range - is no exception.
It pours a nice hazy golden and punches you in the face with aromas of pine and some tropical fruit. From the first sip, you can tell this is an extremely well-made beer. It’s juicy. It’s citrusy. It’s hoppy, and made with a nice profile of hops (Mosaic and Cascade) including a dry hopping with Strata, giving it that fruity and somewhat Earthy flavor. Ten Bends is certainly known for making great IPAs, including one of my personal favorites: Northern Heights Double IPA. Green Fountains reminded me of a lot of Northern Heights (which makes sense considering they both utilize Mosaic hops), but with a slightly more reasonable ABV and Earthy, dank notes.
I can’t recommend trying anything Ten Bends makes enough, so if you have a shot to get your hands on Green Fountains, Northern Heights or any other cans, I’m confident you won’t be disappointed. Oh, and not for nothing, but their can labels are all fantastic.
