Beer of the Week 8/23: Emu in the Woods
Updated: Oct 5, 2020
Beer: Emu in the Woods
Type: Barrel-Aged Brut IPA
Brewer: Lord Hobo Brewing Company
Location: Woburn, MA
We’re all about that Hobo life at BeerSighted (if you haven’t already read our brewery review on our site or checked out our video interview with Trevor and Eric from Lord Hobo, you should probably get on that). And there’s a very good reason why: the beer is fantastic. Sometimes breweries that grow too rapidly lose their taste a bit in search of mass expansion. But Lord Hobo is an obvious exception, maintaining its flair for making exceptional beer while moving into brewery stardom status.
Emu in the Woods is a rather new addition to the Lord Hobo lineup via the brewery’s Vagabond Series, this time branching into the realm of barrel-aging in an oak cask to deliver a smooth, complex taste. You can smell the oak notes while sipping and get a tropical, somewhat citrusy flavor that dominates the profile. The beer is named after our new pal Eric, who first brewed this recipe as the aptly named innovation brewer at Lord Hobo. It’s an interesting and delicious twist for IPA fans that we think beer lovers will enjoy.
