Beer of the Week 10/25: Season of the Witch
Beer: Season of the Witch
Type: Hazy IPA
Brewer: True North Ale Company
Location: Ipswich, MA
I’ll admit it, I initially purchased this beer because it had some really cool label art. But I’ve had a few other True North beers before so I knew I was getting a quality brew, and this one did not disappoint.
My first thought was how refreshing it is to see a seasonal fall beer that isn’t all about pumpkin/fall spices/Oktoberfest/gimmicks. The eerie label was all this beer needed.
Instead, True North crafted another outstanding hazy IPA characterized by flavor notes of mango, passion fruit and pineapple. This beer is double dry-hopped with Citra, Vic Secret and Strata and comes in at a modest 5.9% ABV - certainly lower than your average IPA for a more drinkable experience.
True North brewed this beer a year ago for the Halloween fans in Salem, Massachusetts, and has fortunately made it more widely available after its well-received breakout. It’s not your typical October beer, but it is a damn good outside-the-box fall seasonal.
