Beer of the Week 1/24: Triple Pillow Talk
Beer: Triple Pillow Talk
Type: Marshmallow Triple IPA
Brewer: Magnify Brewing Company
Location: Fairfield, NJ
I won’t pretend to understand the intricacies of brewing beer. Total honesty, I haven’t tried any home-brewing experiments myself, but that’s not for a lack of interest. So it somewhat blew my mind when I first discovered beer brewed with marshmallows, of all things. I didn’t see how it all fit together.
Therefore I’m a relative newb when it comes to trying beers brewed with marshmallow. But what I’ve had so far, I’ve been enamored with. When I got my hands on Magnify Brewing Company’s Triple Pillow Talk, I was excited to give this particular style a go in IPA form. And for the second time in three weeks, our Beer of the Week is a marshmallow-infused brew.
First thing I noticed with this beer is it smells quite sweet - almost candy like. That’s interesting for an IPA (especially a triple), considering the hops typically take over in both taste and aroma. The flavor followed suit. I could genuinely taste the marshmallow and lactose this beer is brewed with, as it dominated the early taste profile. The Motueka, El Dorado and Citra hops eventually came through in the finish, and for 10.4% ABV, this is surprisingly drinkable. So while this is a niche IPA that will potentially miss the mark with your traditional beer drinkers, there’s certainly an audience for these marshmallow brews (count us among the crowd). It’s unique in a great way!
